S.A.F.E. Program
(Saving Animals From Euthanasia)

Our SAFE program is dedicated to saving animals from euthanasia due to a financial burden on the pet owner because of an emergency situation. CARES has partnered with Horseshoe Lake Animal Hospital to provide assistance to those who are in need.

CARES has recognized that in these financial difficult times, pet owners who love and care for their pets may have an immediate need for veterinarian services that are unexpected. Pet owners face very difficult decisions between the love for their pet and financial burden on the family. The SAFE program was created to assist with offsetting some of the financial burden to help loving pet owners get through the immediate need.

Since the program was introduced in mid-summer of 2010, 4 pets were helped through assistance. Below are a couple of examples:

  • On 8/27 a cat was brought into the hospital and was unable to urinate. Immediate veterinarian care was required and the owner could only afford half the fees. The SAFE Program was activated to close the gap and continue with the emergency care.

  • On 9/14 a dog was brought in with immediate care need for bladder stones. The owner had just lost his wife and was going through a difficult time. The SAFE Program was activated to provide immediate assistance to save the pet.

This program relies 100% on donations from the public and all donations made in the name of the CARES SAFE Program goes towards assisting those in need. If you would like to donate to this program, go to our Donations and Memorials area on the website.
